In 2012 the McDonnell International Scholars Academy conducted a comprehensive study to see if a technology resource could be derived that could, in a mechanical manner, curate all of the global initiatives conducted at Washington University in St. Louis.
Such a collection was of great interest and value to the Academy as well as many others in and out of our University family.
To this end, we recruited appropriate partners and met with many university resources who dealt with global matters in any form. After numerous meetings and planning sessions, we found that a potential does exist to create a data warehouse that indexes all of the university's international happenings BUT that producing this catalog in an automated fashion, which was our goal, is not a realistic expectation at this time. Given the varied and deep nature of the content connected with an institution of this size, cultivating the materials without a human's sensibility is a far-reaching expectation.
To this end, we are archiving this initial study. We may leverage these findings in a future campaign, but for now will let the various technologies, critical to our task, further develop and evolve.
